Cognitive Systems
Artificial Perception and Cognition will focus on 1) joint attention mechanisms using innovative interaction modalities and 2) multi-objective dynamic decision-making. We will use multi-modal sensor fusion enabling an Interactive Artificial Agent (IAA) to capture context and behavior cues in group interactions. Dynamic Light Projection to regulate the attention in the context of group interactions, by dynamically control the displayed information that is deemed useful for the current interaction and the IAA role, will be explored. The goal is to explore an innovative HRI as means to maximize interaction throughput. Following up the work on novel hardware implementations of probabilistic computation, more complex algorithms needed in robotics will be developed. Beyond the safety while navigating in cluttered and populated spaces, one important aspect towards the acceptance of mobile assistive robots is their ability to follow social norms. One of the research team's focus is in enhancing current SLAM algorithms to cope with highly dynamic environments
and allow the robot to recognize different obstacle categories (including humans) and what is the context of the detected obstacles.
