Afonso Eloi Carvalho received his M.Sc. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Coimbra in December 2021. His dissertation focused on Path Planning and 3D Traversability Analysis for a Forestry Heavy-Duty UGV. He has worked as a research fellow within the SEMFIRE project until June 2022, on the development of artificial perception mechanisms to support the navigation, mapping and situational awareness of a ground robot in forest environments for land maintenance and forest clearing operation tasks while identifying flammable material. From October 2022, he started his PhD on "Efficient Large Scale Mapping and Path Planning in Forest Environments" with a CMU Portugal scholarship, supervised by David Portugal and George Kantor at the Robotics Intitute of the Carnegie Mellon University.
