Research Area
Sustainable Energy Systems
Interdisciplinary Field
Smart Energy

Assisting the European Commission with the back-to-back evaluation and impact assessment for the review of Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/1781 setting out Ecodesign requirements for electric motors and variable speed drives to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impacts considering all the life-cycle costs and impacts.
Electric motors use more that 50% of all electricity used in Europe, and about 70% of the industrial electricity. Energy-efficient motor systems coupled with digitalization can achieve over 30% of cost-effctive savings and reduce carbon emissions.
