The University of Coimbra offers one research grant for Masters to work on the Project “Card3DFace”, with the following characteristics:

Scientific areas: Computer Vision, Image Processing, Signal Processing, Learning, Machine Learning, Programming

Applicant profile: Master in Electrical and Computers Engineering, Informatics Engineering; Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Physics Engineering, Mathematics, or similar, as long as with programming skills. Previous experience in the areas of Image Processing, Signal Processing, Computer Vision, and particularly in Plenoptic or Light Field Cameras, are valued but are not mandatory.

Type of activity: The research fellows will integrate a multi-disciplinary team aiming at the development of a printing system for 3D faces of humans in cards with lenticular lenses of vertical shape. The objective is to produce the image of a face with tridimensional aspect. The type of cameras used to produce the face 3D model will be light field cameras. The work plan for the fellowship is the following:

- Construction of a Data Base of faces using two or more type of light field cameras; Construction and tune of the algorithm to make 3D reconstruction of the faces from a single image of a light field camera; Test and validation of the algorithm; Report.

Regime: The attribution of the scholarship does not generate or entitle a relation of a legal-labour nature, it is undertaken in an exclusive dedication regime and the fellow is granted with the Fellow Statute of the University of Coimbra, according to the Regulation of Research Grants of the University of Coimbra.

Location: Computer Vision Lab of the Institute of Systems and Robotics of the University of Coimbra.

Duration: 12 months

Renewal: Eventually renewable.

Scientific Orientation: Professor Nuno Miguel Mendonça da Silva Gonçalves.

Financial conditions: 980€ for a candidate with the Master Degree, paid at the end of each month by bank transfer, plus social security (seguro social voluntário, first level contributions) and a personal accidents insurance.

Each of the criteria will be given a classification in a scale 0 to 5 and the final grade (NF) will be computed according to the following equation: NF=0.35xA+0.30xB+0.35xC. If none of the candidates have a final grade of at least 3.5, the call will close without any hiring.

Jury responsible for selection: Professor Hélder de Jesus Araújo, Professor João Pedro de Almeida Barreto and Professor Nuno Miguel Mendonça da Silva Gonçalves.
